Global functional variation in alpine vegetation

چکیده
Questions What are the functional trade-offs of vascular plant species in global alpine ecosystems? How is variation related to vegetation zones, climatic groups and biogeographic realms? relative contribution macroclimate evolutionary history shaping communities? Location Global. Methods We compiled a data set with 5,532 geo-referenced plots, 1,933 six traits. used principal component analysis quantify among trait probability density assess dissimilarity different realms. multiple regression on distance matrices model community against environmental phylogenetic dissimilarity, controlling for geographic distance. Results The first two PCA axes explained 66% species’ were leaf stem economic spectra, respectively. Trait was largely independent zone but differed across same pattern emerged both pool levels. effects dissimilarities had similar magnitude, while effect negligible. Conclusions Plant areas reflect function, predominant role resource use strategies. Current exerts limited vegetation, mostly acting at level combination history. Global functionally unrelated zones which it embedded, exhibiting strong convergence regions.

Variation in Soil Respiration across Soil and Vegetation Types in an Alpine Valley
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Soils of mountain regions and their associated plant communities are highly diverse over short spatial scales due to the heterogeneity of geological substrates and highly dynamic geomorphic processes. The consequences of this heterogeneity for biogeochemical transfers, however, remain poorly documented. The objective of this study was to quantify the variability of soil-surf...
متن کاملInvestigating Vegetation of Mowed and Grazed Areas in Tamdere Village Alpine Pastures in Turkey
Activities of transhumance ongoing have been mostly carried out in alpine pastures for centuries in Turkey. These pastures used unconsciously have faced to the danger of extinction. In order to implement improvement plans in the mentioned areas, qualitative and quantitative characteristics of pastures should be determined. This study was conducted in the mowed and grazed pastures in alpine zone...
متن کاملFire Alters Vegetation and Soil Microbial Community in Alpine Meadow
Grassland fire, as an important ecological factor, is quite influential in determining the structural and functional stability of ecosystem. In this work, the fire-induced changes on the vegetation and soil microbial community were studied in alpine meadow. Microbial community composition was assessed by phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis, and functional diversity was determined by Biolog ...
متن کاملPatterns of plant traits in Pyrenean alpine vegetation
Here we studied the adaptation of plant communities to environment in the alpine belt of the Catalan Pyrenees through comparative analysis of plant traits. The starting point consisted of about 800 phytocoenological relevés from the Banc de Dades de Biodiversitat de Catalunya, which corresponded to 47 communities (associations and subassociations) and included 683 taxa. Eleven attributes were e...
